ABSTRACT:
Evidence management should be part of an enterprise ESI initiative that includes backup and recovery, archiving, storage resource management and tiered network storage. The technology foundation for an enterprise ESI strategy must include the ability to automate and enforce data migration between online systems and a variety of storage devices, and to implement global retention and disposition policies. From an enterprise perspective, litigation holds are simply a subset of broader retention policies. When electronic discovery is approached in this way, you build a "library" of accuracy and prior use that makes validation incrementally more rigorous, consistent and cost effective over time. This efficiency does not just apply to document reviews. It is equally applicable to collections of documents assembled for previous cases. You can reuse the results of prior document searches, which means your legal team or your outside counsel can be up to speed much faster on related matters.
